Chest X-rays is most common radiological procedure which show images of

 Heart, Lungs, Blood vessels, Airways, The bones of your chest and Spine, breast shadow in case female.

Chest X-rays can also reveal fluid or air in the pleural cavity.  

Types of view

Anterior posterior view

Posterior anterior view

Difference between these views:

In Anterior posterior view heart shadow is more magnify.

Position of patient:

Upper limb should elevated and abducted so scapula shift laterally and chest cavity can be seen clearly.

How to describe chest X-ray?

This is the plane X-ray of chest in posterior anterior view

Following structures are seen in the X-ray plate

Soft tissue

     1. Left border of heart (known as arterial border of heart  )

From below upward

     Apex of heart:

     Left ventricle

     Left auricle

     Pulmonary artery

     Aortic arch: (aortic knuckle)

  1. Right border of heart (known as venous border of heart)

From below upward

    Inferior vena cava

    Right atrium

     Superior vena cava

       3. Right and left Dome of diaphragm

       4. Trachea: central back shadow

       5. Hilum shadow

       6. in case female:  breast shadow

Bony structure

           Clavicle

           Coracoid process of scapula

          Clavicle

          Scapula

          Acromion process

           1st rib

           Ribs

            Thoracic vertebrae

              Intercostal space
